Elephants
Miranda (makes a squealing noise)
Me: Stop that.
Miranda: I'm being an elephant.
Me: Well, that noise is annoying.
Miranda: No, elephants ARE annoying!

Found out what she means. She misunderstood the word "annoying". We went into a shopping centre a few days after her comment and she said,"It's annoying in here." I said, "What do you mean?" She said, "All the people talking and other noises."
It seems that my habit of telling them to "turn that down, it's annoying" or "be quiet, that's annoying" has been slightly misinterpreted. She seems to think that "annoying" means "loud".
Of course, we did explain to her as best we could what "annoying" really means. (I'm sure elephants everywhere will be relieved that they're no longer being maligned.)
