Noise

Miranda and Zoë were in their beds (they share a room) and they were doing their usual before-sleep chattering and reading and such. We didn't pay much attention to it at first but then Zoë started saying, "Stop it! Stop it!" and eventually was shrieking it.

Andrew got up and went in and asked in a stern voice, "WHAT is going on in here?!"

Zoë said, "Is not a sheep!" (Because Zoë is quite speech delayed and uses odd speech patterns sometimes.)

Miranda then volunteered, "I was just noising like a sheep."

Andrew said, "You were making sheep noises, and Zoë didn't like it? Well, stop making sheep noises and go to sleep."

And he said it while managing to keep a straight face after Miranda's explanation. Now, of course, the family has adopted the word "noising" when we want to describe making a noise...

Girl stuff

I colored my hair (several shades lighter, but still red) and got out of the shower. Miranda was talking to me as I got dressed.

Miranda: You washed your hair.
Me: Yes. And what color is it now?
Miranda: Orange.

And then, later, this gem:

Miranda: When I be a big girl, I can be a cat.
Me: A cat?
Miranda: Yeah, like Miffy. [her grandparents' cat]
Me: *laughing* Well, I don't think you can be a cat, even when you're a big girl.
