Hey, I remember those...

It was quite hot last night, so I went to bed without a shirt on. In the morning, Miranda came and got into our bed, and I was sleeping on my back, with the sheet slipped down around my waist. I was mostly asleep but vaguely aware that Miranda was there when I felt her lean over and put her mouth on my breast and then, a moment later, she sat back up and said, "Yuck!" because there's no milk any more!

Little Miss Contrary-er

Miranda's contrariness has gotten more pronounced. She's now saying "No" to pretty much everything, no matter what it is. Sometimes she says no even while complying!

Yesterday at Zoë's birthday lunch at McDonald's, Miranda managed to walk out of an open door (which should have been closed, but they're doing construction and I guess it either stuck open or it was propped that way so they could carry stuff in and out) and into the parking lot, which nearly gave me a heart attack. I ran after her and snatched her up and carried her back in, after shrieking her name (and frightening several of the other patrons, unfortunately). And what did Miranda do? She laughed at me. How very funny, to make Mama scream and run and come fetch me...

She did it again when we got home, too. I started up the path and she turned around and ran the other way. We live in a very, very quiet street (a cul de sac, actually, very little traffic), and she didn't leave the driveway, but that's not the point. I was very stern with her and told her to come with me, and she laughed at me and told me no, and sobbed when I made her come upstairs instead of playing Chase the Toddler with her.

She's also decided to fight me every time I change her nappy, but she still won't use the potty.

I do realize that this is a very normal developmental stage, and that being oppositional is a necessary part of developing autonomy and so forth, but that doesn't really make it any more fun to deal with.

Pushing sister's buttons

Miranda has learned several nasty things to do to her sister, things she apparently does just to be obnoxious. One is standing right in front of Zoë at the television, so Zoë can't see. Another is going over to where Zoë is playing and taking one of the toys she's using and literally running off with it. She normally runs to me, and I have to pry the toy out of her fingers and return it to the outraged Zoë.

Siblings. *sigh*

Long time no update!

We've been very busy around here lately, but I normally don't go quite this long between updates. Gosh!

Miranda's doing exceptionally well with learning words, with at least a hundred that she can recognize on sight. She's gone on to learn basic colors and shapes, and she's been going to a children's music group with her Nanna, so now she knows a number of new songs with motions, as well!

I had suspected that Miranda was gifted for a while, but I think I can now say that she certainly is. Her little mind is like a sponge, it's quite extraordinary. She's not even three years old yet, but she's reading Dr Seuss (Fox in Sox).
