Some?

Miranda's speech is coming along incredibly well. She's now speaking for the sake of actual communication, rather than just for the novelty of it. She's using lots and lots of words, some of them quite creatively.

Her latest "cute thing" to say is when she wants to eat some of your food. She holds out her hand and and says, "Some?" no doubt because I always ask, "Do you want some?"

Today she was giving some of her extra chips (extra being the ones Miranda didn't intend to eat) to her sister, and she held out the chip to Zoë and said, "Some!"

Gaffa Tape

Other than maybe Gaffa Tape, is there any solution for that horrible toddler *S*H*R*I*E*K* that makes one's ears ring?

Reading

Believe it or not, Miss Miranda has two words that she can read on sight, "cat" and "mouse". When Andrew showed this to me I was really amazed and shocked. I think she really will be reading by the time she's three, same as he was...

Busy, busy, busy...

We've been terribly busy lately, and I should update more often, I know.

Miranda has finally decided that her childcare group is actually fun and not at all scary. When I brought her there on Wednesday, she went over and sat down at one of the little tables and started to play with a bulding toy with one of the childcare workers. I got her things settled away and signed her in and when I went to go, I tried to get her attention to say goodbye and she actually hid from me! She ducked her head under the table to hide. I think she was afraid I was going to make her go, and she wasn't quite ready to do that!

Her language is developing beautifully. New words frequently, and she retains them (unlike Zoë, who would learn a new word and then seem to "forget" it), and she's using them properly and regularly. So, no speech delay here, and no other signs of developmental problems such as Zoë has. I didn't expect such a thing, but I was still watching for it. It's good to see she's doing well and developing normally or even a bit more quickly than usual.

In other developments, she's still screaming when she's upset. It's pretty annoying, to say the least. She just lets loose with a shriek... Last night she was on my lap and she got angry and shrieked right in my ear, and my ear is still ringing a little bit, believe it or not. I have no idea how to curb this, other than telling her "NO" firmly and looking at her sternly and trying to persuade her to whisper instead of scream (that does actually work sometimes, believe it or not).
