Growing like a weed
It has been far, FAR too long since I updated this journal. We've been having absolutely wretched problems with our server, though, and it's really hard to get the stupid thing to respond. I've gone to add an entry a few times and had it time out on me or otherwise fail to work. *sigh* Here's hoping I can actually get this posted (and our bandwidth will be increasing by Monday, so that will help considerably).
Now to Miranda... Right now as I type this she's playing with a wooden recorder (the flutey-type instrument, not a tape recorder). She's figured out how to blow into it to make a noise, and she'll often do it when there's other music playing, so she obviously knows it's music.
She's also talking some, and she very clearly understands a lot of what we say. The other day we were getting ready to go out and I realized I needed to duck back in to get something. I took Miranda with me while Andrew and Zoë went down to the car. Miranda was quite annoyed by this. She kept looking over her shoulder and indicating that we were supposed to be going the OTHER way... Finally she announced, "Go!" Since then, she's said "go" a couple of other times in context, as well.
Another thing I see her doing is trying to repeat words we say to her. She'll almost ask what something is, and when we say the word, she'll often try to repeat it herself (with mixed success, but at least she's interested and trying).
Miranda has learned how to eat with a spoon (mostly by pure observation) and she does all right with it, although she makes a mess. She's trying to eat with a fork now, which mostly consists of getting the food on the fork, lifting the fork up, and pulling the food off with her fingers to actually eat it.
She hasn't quite mastered drinking from an open cup or glass yet. She can do it with a bit of help, but if she tries it alone, she ends up pouring the drink all over herself.
She's as good-tempered as ever, but is rapidly turning into a typically demanding toddler. She's figuring out that she has a will and she can make that will know, by gosh!
All in all, she seems to be right on schedule, and perhaps even a bit advanced in a couple areas. She's clearly not speech delayed, which is a good thing... She likes to sit on her dad's lap and have conversations with him. Of course, she's mostly just jabbering, but she makes hand gestures, facial expressions, and she'll say something, pause, wait for him to reply, and then talk some more. It's really cute to watch. I don't think it'll be so very long before the jabbering is replaced by real language.
