New game

Miranda's got a new game. She finds it terribly exciting and fun. She gives me a small object (usually her small red rubber ball) and I hide it in one of my hands, and she gets me to open my hands one at at time. When she finds the object, she absolutely squeals with delight.

Last night, she was in bed with Andrew and me and we were playing the game with four parents' hands. For the first time, I think she was starting to work out that the ball might be in a different location/hand every time. Previously, she just thought it was funny to see me open my hands and show her the ball again. But last night, she seemed to start to realize that out of four hands, the ball would only be in one of them.

Why this is so terribly, terribly exciting, I can't say, but then, I'm not a toddler (good thing, too).

Latest accomplishments

Miss Miranda has a new trick. It's called, "Go and find someone." The "someone" is usually me, but it may be her father or older sister. Basically, Miranda's worked out that when someone leaves the room, they've probably gone somewhere nearby, so she goes to find them. She's followed me into the bedroom and the toilet and pestered her sister while sister's sitting on the potty, and she's frequently underfoot while Daddy's in the kitchen doing anything whatsoever.

Tonight, she heard a noise of some sort (probably sounded like a door being unlocked to her) and so Miranda wandered toward the back door saying, "Da? Da?" I said, "No, sweetie, Daddy's not here," and she grinned at me, turned around, and came back into the family room.

Miranda still doesn't talk all that much (so far her two words other than people's names are "book" and "bik" which is a cookie), but she certainly seems to understand a great deal of what we say to her.
