Teeth!
I noticed today that Miranda has three teeth! Both top teeth and one bottom tooth have erupted. I'm not 100% sure when it happened, but I think it had to be overnight or this morning, because I don't think she had the erupted teeth yesterday.
Just like Zoë, Miranda hasn't gotten any teeth until she's nearly a year old... Ah, well. She'll catch up. Zoë certainly isn't lacking in the tooth department.
A Stand Up Girl
Miranda pulled herself to a standing position tonight, without any help or encouragement.
She's also scoot/crawling all over the place now. This all happened just in the past couple of weeks, too. She went from "happy to be in one place" to "hey, I can get all kinds of interesting stuff if I just wiggle around a little."
Christmas for Babies
Miranda took the whole Christmas thing surprisingly well. She sat with me most of the time, which helped, but she also played on the floor a bit, and once the toys started to appear, she happily played with those, despite the many people she didn't know and the disruption in her usual routine.
She's almost crawling now. She gets up on all fours and then pushes forward and flops onto her belly, but she's definitely getting the idea. She's also drinking out of a cup by herself (although she makes a big mess with it), and she's started to pull herself to a standing position when she holds onto an adult's hands. Andrew thinks she'll learn to crawl just so she can get to a person or object on which to pull herself up...
Sitting up and turning around
I noticed today that Miranda can fairly easily go from lying on her tummy to sitting upright. She also gets up on all fours now, although she's not quite worked out crawling (yet). She can (and does) scoot around on her tummy, pulling herself by the elbows, but a full crawl has thus far eluded her.
It's just a matter of time...
Parties aren't much fun
Miranda didn't quite know what to make of the Bromage Christmas party on Saturday. There were all these people she'd never met, and a lot of noise and weird things going on, and she was just kind of overwhelmed. She didn't cry or fuss or anything, and most of the time she was happy to sit on the floor by my feet at eat bread (and strawberries, yum!), but she didn't seem to be enjoying herself much.
She did let a couple of aunties and one uncle hold her briefly, but she seemed very unsure about the whole business of strange people holding her.
I was also told that she was watching me all the time. That I'd get up to get something (a drink, something to eat, etc.) and the baby would suddenly get big eyes, look all around, and once she saw me, she'd go back to whatever she was doing (playing or eating, mostly), but she kept her eye on me the whole time.
All day Sunday, she was very, very clingy, indeed, and wouldn't even let her great-grandfather hold her, which is unusual. She'd smile at him and so on, but only if I was holding her. I think she was just very overwhelmed by the party experience, and while she wasn't especially irritable, she insisted that she had to be held (or be within a meter of me at all times).
First Haircut
Miranda ended up having her first haircut today. We didn't plan on it, but Zoë got a haircut and the stylist came over to see Miranda and noted that her hair was a bit long in her face and offered to give it a little trim. Miranda didn't even have to get out of the stroller.
And yes, there are pictures of this momentous event in the photo gallery.
Yes, please
Miranda is so fun to feed. She'll eat almost anything! Today we went out to do some shopping and we ate at the food court. Miranda ate two dim sims, then several pieces of carrot, some broccoli, and a baby corn from my Chinese soup, and then, because she was still hungry, she ate baked cheesecake (Andrew got it because it was small and they didn't have any small muffins at the muffin shop). She ended up eating the entire tart-sized cheesecake by herself, because Zoë the picky eater wouldn't eat any.
At dinner time we had a salad meal and Miranda happily ate sliced herbed chicken cold cuts and croutons.
I want some!
Miranda's gotten to the age where she's started demanding to have some of whatever Zoë's got. Give Zoë a cracker, Miranda has to have one, too. Give Zoë a drink, Miranda needs a drink. Anything the sister's got, the baby's got to have, too.
Ah, siblings. What fun.
