Finally feeling better
Miranda's been unwell for a few days now. It started with a fever, but there were not other symptoms other than irritability. She's normally really good-natured and easy going, so I knew she wasn't well when she cried and whimpered all the time and wanted to be held constantly.
Today, though, she's finally entirely over it. She's been lying quite happily on the blanket on the floor for several hours, watching Shrek (yes, she really does watch it and she recognizes the music in it) and playing with her big sister off and on. She's her usual happy, smiling self again. Whew.
Fever
Miranda's got a fever. It's not very high, but she's had it for a day or so now. She's fairly cranky and wants to be held constantly, poor kid. No symptoms other than the fever and the crankiness, so we'll just wait and see how it goes. If it doesn't clear up in a day or so more, we'll just have to go to the doctor.
And on unrelated news, there are new pictures in the photo gallery.
Food, glorious food...
Miranda's got quite an appetite lately. She seems to have really taken to this whole idea of solid food. Of course, it helps that Nanna gives her vanilla ice cream (just a little, and go on and try to stop grandparents from doing things like that) and big sister Zoë feeds her raisin toast (just the crust, and Miranda mostly just tasted it rather than actually eating it).
She's getting better at sitting up now. If we sit her up and provide just a bit of balance, she can sit for several minutes at a time. No sign of crawling yet, but I don't imagine it'll be very long. She's very keen on moving around and getting places. She's also started "talking" a lot more. She babbles and coos and gurgles all the time. It's pretty cute.
Few new pictures on the gallery, only one of Miranda, but these are older ones from the May-June period. I have more from July that I need to add. I hope to get those online later today.
Six months old!
Miranda Joy is six months old today! I can hardly believe it. She's perfect, by the way. The perfect addition to our family. She's just gorgeous and we all adore her.
She's started to make "talking" noises. "Ba ba ba ba" and "Ma ma ma ma", which, of course, I claim is her saying "Mama" (I doubt it, at six months, but what the heck).
She's also started eating a bit more of a variety of food. Today she had plain yogurt and seemed to quite enjoy it. I'm going to cook up a batch of carrots and chicken and also some chicken with apricots for her, since I'm not that crazy about store-bought baby foods most of the time. Some of them are okay, and they're convienient to take along places, and hey, I may as well buy apple sauce (we just get her normal apple sauce, some of it with other fruits like blackcurrant or berries of some sort) because the whole family eats that.
And, of course, she's still very much a breastfed baby. We've tried now and then to offer her a bottle, but she hates it. Won't take it at all. This happened with Zoë, too, which means we never got to see movies in the theatre until she was drinking well from a cup and eating solid foods!
Ah, well. I think we probably will introduce a cup some time very soon and see how she goes with it. She's got a good little grip and holds things pretty well and manages to get them to her mouth. A cup with handles might be a good way to start.
Swapping hands!
Miranda is swapping hands while holding and object! This is a good and important skill. She's only just started it today as far as I can tell, but she's catching on really quickly and doing it quite well. She's also figured out that if you swing your hand/arm around while holding a rattle, it makes a lot of noise that's very entertaining...
