Wiggly Baby and Solid Foods

Miranda is her usual happy, smiley, agreeable self these days. Right at the moment she's sleeping peacefully in the bouncer, her little thumb in her mouth. Lately I've been having to put on the safety belt when I put her in either of the bouncers (like a baby seat, not one of those things you hang from the ceiling) because she's so wiggly she squirms almost out!

She's been eating some solid foods, as well. She seems to enjoy it, and seems to be tolerating the food well. Her breastfeeding hasn't decreased at all as far as I can tell. She had all the signs of being ready to start solids, and I went with it, and it looks like it was a good decision. So far she's had the usual baby rice cereal (horrible bland stuff that it is) and pureed, strained apple, often mixed together.

Sleeping babies and toes for toys

She slept in our bed last night. She was just very unsettled and wasn't happy in her own bed (which she normally is). So she ended up sleeping with us all night. I don't mind that too much, really. Zoë slept with us for most of her early months and off and on for her first couple of years, and now she never seems to want to sleep with us at all, so I know they do outgrow it.

Miranda has also discovered that she has TOES. Very much fun to grab and hold and play with.

Checkup

Miranda went for a checkup at the health center yesterday. She's doing well. Her weight gain has slowed a bit, but she's still well within normal. She also laughed at the nurse, which was really cute, or at least, I thought so. I may be a little biased, of course.

Happy baby

Four months is a nice age for a baby. They're still little, compact, and portable, but they smile, coo, play, and communicate in various ways. They're also not mobile yet!

Miranda's just at that lovely age. Right now she's sitting in the bouncer next to me, cooing and giggling at me, and kicking her little feet like mad.

The trouble with this age is that a baby is alert enough to want and need stimulation and play, but they're unable to really entertain themselves. So, well, she wants to be held and talked to a lot more than she used to.

What I do a lot of the time is just put her in the sling and rock her or sing to her while I work at the computer. Works like a charm.

Thursday she's got an appointment at the health center to be weighed and measured and all that sort of thing, so there'll be a report on that when it happens. I can tell you, though, that she's outgrowing a lot of her clothes, so we must be doing something right!

Grasping objects

Miranda is now not just grasping objects, she's reaching out to do it. If you hold something interesting in front of her, she'll raise her little hand and grab hold of it. She can't always keep hold of it, but she certainly has the ability to take it.
